Family Equidae (equids). The few zebras left in the wild live in the mountain grasslands of southwestern Africa. The pattern of their stripes is unique, like the fingerprints of individual people. Zebra feeds on grass almost the whole day (60-80% of the time). Their average height is about 1.2 meters. The female gives birth to 1 foal after a year of pregnancy. The life span is up to 28 years.  

Zebras live in savannahs and pastures, forming small or, at times, thousands of flocks. They feed on the same food as giraffes and eat grass after dark or early in the morning. The herd is led by an old male who becomes the leader.
